(January... also known as the month my word started following me around)
My word for this year is Patience.
I know this because it keeps finding me.
If I don’t think about it myself, my husband reminds me.
If he doesn’t, I read about it.
And if that doesn’t happen, my desk calendar will show me a cartoon about... yes: patience!
At this point, I’m pretty sure I chose the right word. Or maybe it chose me.
What makes it funny is the small moment when I suddenly notice it.
Ploink.
Oh yes. That again.
I’m not very impatient with other people. I can wait. I can listen.
But with myself?
Not so much.
I want things to move forward.
I want answers to come quickly.
I want my body, my ideas, and my writing to cooperate.
And when they don’t, my first thought is often: I’ll just stop.
That’s usually when my word shows up again.
Patience.
I write about it in a light way here, but inside it doesn’t always feel light. This word also stays with me during long medical searches, in ongoing conversations with doctors, and in waiting for answers that take much longer than I expected.
So yes, my word is doing its work.
It keeps appearing.
It keeps interrupting me.
And often, it makes me smile when I realize what’s happening.
Ploink.
Oh yes. Patience.
P.S. I made the image with ChatGPT by literally telling it what I wanted — out loud, in quotes, with many small instructions. This is the result. What do you think?

love your Word of the year! Mine is Confidence.
ReplyDeletethanks for visiting Gold in the Clouds. yes...mugs...my coffee i drink either black or with a drizzle of unsweetened almond milk. I have MANY because I collect a mug from any place I've been. so yes, we have them from Paris, Rome, many from different places in the northeast USA and montreal. many from various Adirondack Mountain villages.
the Netherlands is on my bucket list to live. In fact, if I could convince husband to retire early and move...it would be to someplace in the Netherlands so we could get away from our current toxic "leader". God help us all.
you asked how the weather is: here in eastern New York State we are at 11 degrees F (VERY COLD) but the snow has stopped and we received in our town about 14 inches. It is supposed to be bitter cold but sunny all week. Wednesday I might take my snowshoes out and go do some snowshoeing in a local nature preserve. Other than that, I am cozy with coffee and books.
I love the way you were able to use AI so positively, Aritha! Yes, I do need more patience in my own life, but my word for the year is Light. I don't know if you saw that declaration on my blog, but I do detail how the light fascinates and intrigues me at this time of the year, how it changes and shows us how time passes incrementally if we allow it to influence us. Perhaps, I will also learn patience as this year unfolds. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures that you created with AI. May it always be used for good! My One Word is Discernment, and I'm finding that I am having to use it more and more every day...mostly in how to respond to people about serious things...without hurting them or causing division and yet making an important point, after praying for God's direction and discernment. That is not always easy for me. I often blurt my first thought out before thinking. Patience is a very good word, but a difficult one to learn. My prayers are with you in this quest for patience. Remember the obstacles that suddenly appear in your path are there for a reason! Not always what we want, but sometimes God uses them to teach us patience and trust in His direction. Blessings to you today my friend across the sea.
ReplyDeleteGreat article and good blog. Agree with your opinion. Thx

ReplyDeleteMy word "stay" has me making different choices than I might have in the past. It has been comforting to know that I don't have to do it all.

ReplyDeleteOh boy. Patience. This is a tough one! And I have to say I am impressed what can be done with ChatGPT:)
ReplyDeleteGreat image from ChatGPT. And I smiled at how Patience keeps interrupting you because that's how I often feel too. Working to give it more to yourself is a beautiful gift to you! Love this.
